2016 What A Year.
On the surface when I sit and reflect on this past year the first thought that comes to my mind is what an awful year I had. All of things I failed to accomplish come to mind. The area’s I didn’t grow, and everything I saw myself doing but didn’t come close to doing. Those who know me best understand the high standards I hold myself to in addition to how hard I am on myself. With that being said, you can understand why on the surface I feel like 2016 was a huge let down.
But taking a step back and truly reflecting on the past 365 days, it was absolutely amazing. There is no underestimating all of the awesome things, places, and people 2016 brought into my life. The list of places I was fortunate to travel to range from Las Vegas, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, San Antonio to Idaho, Phoenix, North Dakota, Utah, and South Dakota for basketball road games. Each bringing their own new adventures.
This year I spent so much time with my family which in past years I was only able to spend a few quick days at home during Christmas. My family and parents began a top priority in my life this year and each visit spent with them back home was one memory well spent.
This summer bought a brand car! Something I hoped and wished for this year but at times never thought financially was going to be possible. But God made it happen for me and it’s such a blessing to now have a working reliable car.
Hands down the best night of the year was going to the Drake Summer Sixteen concert, not once but twice. There's honestly no better feeling and experience than seeing one of your favorite performers live signing and dancing to all of your favorite songs.
Let's not forget that this year I turned 30 which to me is the coolest thing ever!!! I've never felt more independent and in control of the happiness and success of my life. With that being said, my favorite memory of the year was celebrating my 30th Birthday together with my family. It was the first time in five years since I've been working with a college team that my parents have seen me on the sidelines, so it was a pretty special moment for me.
In 2016 I am most proud for my courage and strength to JUST DO IT. I lost all fear of what will people think and did all of things I love. This year I took more pictures and made more videos than ever before and I loved every second of it. I redesigned my blog, sold t-shirts, sent all of my friends DLB wristbands and did it all because I believe in it. I must say, the support of my close friends and parents was unreal.
I also FINALLY started a web series, “The Last Shot” thanks to Jacqlyn letting me interview and annoy her with a camera 247. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRMKO85orldGNw5Ti84Fdew
Sometimes you literally have to just do it. Before you’re ready, have enough money, and have the resources to do so. All of those things are great but if you keep waiting for life to line up perfectly in place to start doing what you love, you’ll be waiting your entire life. Sometimes you have to do what you love, with what you have. I don’t have the best camera’s or editing software, but that’s not going to stop me from continuing to film and take pictures until I can get to that next level.
So, if there’s anything I’m taking into 2017 it’s the same courage and strength to pursue what I love each and every day to dream live ball and do what I love with so much effort and passion.
HAPPY 2017. Whatever it is that awakens your soul, just do it.
