May 15, 2015...that one time I moved to CO!!!

May 15, 2015...that one time I moved to CO!!!

It really is true what they say about not fully appreciating something until it’s gone. I’ve been in Houston for two in a half months now and needless to say I never realized how many little things I took for granted in Colorado. I left CO not thinking I would miss much, but after being gone for several weeks there is so much I miss about Colorado.

Whenever I tell people from Texas I moved here from Colorado, their faces always light up with so much excitement. "OMG you moved here from Denver?!?! Wow how cool, It's SO pretty there, I would love to live there!!!" Then I think to myself, did I take the good ol' centennial state for granted?🤔 Now, about 95% of the time the very next thing I get is... "Did you go skiing a lot?" Nope. "Did you hang out in the mountains?" Nope. "What about hiking did you go hiking ever" Eh, once sprained my ankle (twice), and never went back. "Colorado Springs??" Only for our game at Air Force. So as you can see, I really lived it up in CO...😐 #lies

The Weather: I never understood what people meant about the weather in Denver been so amazing. It’s snows, it’s cold, and it’s always sunny, what’s the big deal? Try living in Houston where the temperature is always HOT, always. So far since I’ve been here there hasn’t been a warm up or a cool down. Seriously, no matter what time of day it is, early morning, noon or late at night, it’s hot, sweaty, muggy, and humid. Basically, it’s literally THE worst.

The Rain: Speaking of the weather, I can't forget to tell you how much it rains here in Houston. It's actually a thing if you didn't know, maybe because it's close to the water? I really don't know but the climate is offically reffered too as "humid subtropical." It's nearly impossible to keep your car looking shiny and fresh because of how much, and how randomly it rains. According my research, aka google, the annual rain fall in Houston is almost 50 inches, compared to around 8-15 in Denver. HUGE difference!!! Now, I'm not talking cute little baby sprinkles. I'm talking rain drop, drop top..when it rains here it don't stop stop!!!

People forget Houston is near the coast...

Bugs & Critters: I didn’t even think about it until living in Houston but there aren't hardly any bugs or crawling critters in Denver. It was probably a big deal to even see a small spider or something. Houston however is filled with lizards, frogs, flying spider thingys, and crickets among many other things. Whenever it’s time to take Harper outside to potty it’s now become a time to prepare for war. To fully “protect myself” from these things I spray my arms and legs with bug spray, put on a hat, sneakers (no sandals or open toed shoes!!!), sweat pants, and sometimes even a long sleeve shirt. The lizards blend into the walls, they almost look fake, like rubber or plastic and they scare the crap out of me. BUT, according the leasing office at my apartment (after my compliant lol, yes I complained about lizards on the ceilings...) are good to have because they eat up the small bugs. There’s also these slow moving flying spider things and sometimes when I take Harper out, they float their way on to my shirt and shorts, so not okay. The neighbors are probably getting a kick out of me swatting away bugs and kicking away frogs in 94 degree weather in sweats, but hey a girl’s gotta protect herself am I right? I thought so!

Traffic: Personally, I never thought traffic was too bad in Denver. Houston in the third largest city in the US and is continuing to grow with lots of construction updates all over the city. I still have to use my GPS LITERALLY every day on the way to work because each morning there is a new route that is quicker than the day before. God Bless I-25 in Denver, I actually miss my simple morning commute to work😭

The Homies: Of course, last but not least. I miss the fam, the crew, the homies. My DU staff and family was absolutely one of a kind. Our bond was unbreakable and something I truly did take for granted working with such amazing people who were more than just your co-workers. The good thing is we ALL still keep in touch and will be friends and family for life.

With all of that being said(and nothing against you Houston Texas...), Colorado I miss you. Denver, I love you and will always appreciate the memories and my time with you. Although I didn’t exactly get along with your hiking trails and mountain views, I know next time to stay at the foothills and never go above 5280.

18 Years & Counting

brittanybrittany graham

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending one my best friends and longest friends wedding. Friday, July 21, 2017 in Destin Florida as tears rolled down my cheeks😭 I watched Bethany Joy marry the man of her dreams. I wouldn’t consider myself much a crier, but I couldn’t help but to find myself getting emotional watching someone you have known for over 18 years look so beautiful walking down the isle to eventually say, I do!👰🏼 💕💕💕

Probably because most of our memories together were during the super awkward middle school and early high school stages of our lives lol, see for your self...🤣

Senior Day at GSU, 2010

The older I get, the more I value friendship and loyalty which is exactly what Bethany as been to me ever since 7th grade. I moved around a lot when I was younger, before there was Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram making it nearly impossible to stay in touch with old friends. But despite the lack of then technology, we always managed to stay close. After moving away in 10th grade for my 18th birthday, I took a trip back to Washington to spend the weekend with Bethany and see the rest of my old Pullman friends. The same year, Bethany flew out to Colorado for a weekend in the winter to see me play at my new school in Colorado (😎🏀It should also be noted that game I had a triple-double…18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 steals). A few years later Bethany came to Atlanta for my senior day game at Georgia State. (😩This game should be noted I went 0-2 from the field in 23 minutes and played like trash).

My best friends <3

My best friends <3

Because I moved so much it was not only hard to make friends, but I found it even harder to keep friends. Looking back now I can see how I was a bad friend and never really opened myself up to people in fear of another move. It was a tough cycle for me to break. But through it all, middle school, drivers ed, braces, overalls, track meets, basketball games, college, apartment searches, real jobs, puppies (lol Bentley and harper🐶) and everything else in between. No matter where life has taken me, Bethany has always been my friend and a loyal one at that.

There were times and stages in our lives we went weeks, months even without talking. But when we did reconnect it was like nothing had ever changed and we picked up right where we left off…annoying teachers at Pullman High School since 2001🤙🏽

Last April I reunited with “Beth,” when I came to visit her in Houston for a long weekend. While I was there I was able to witness my BFF in her natural habitat of teaching 7th grade Language Arts (read the full blog post here: http://www.dreamliveball.com/blog/2016/04/10/sharing-my-best-friend). It was a wonderful weekend reuniting with her and it made me realize just how much I missed having a friend like Bethany in my everyday life.

So fast forward to present day, little did I know that the Lord would bring us together again living in the same city after 18 years apart. I will forever be grateful for the many differences in our personalities and backgrounds. But even more thankful for the strength in the similarities of our beliefs that hold us together and keep us close.

Thank you BJB, now BJWil for making me a better person and always being there for me. I love you and wish you, Frank & Bentley a happy new life together.

Life Lately, Doing What I Love❤️

Life lately…

❤️📷 I love it!!!

❤️📷 I love it!!!

Just wanted to give you guys a quick little update on what’s been going on with my life lately. For starters, I cannot believe October is nearly over, where has time gone? I always feel like once Halloween hits everything is no longer moving in slow motion and life starts to fly by, with or without you. I’m happy to say that this year I’m happily choosing to go with life.

The past month or so I’ve been working extremely hard to produce good content straight from the heart for this blog. After a bad few weeks of not feeling inspired to write or motivated to even try, I’m happy to report ya girl is back in action 😎.

Finally pretty decent right?

Finally pretty decent right?

And for starters, can we all just take a second to appreciate the results of my IG (@DreamLiveBall) theme/feed, since I've actually been putting effort into it. I'm finally starting to love it!!!

SO...Basically, what had happened was…I got off my ass, got real with myself, stopped making excuses, and make ish happen. I started with just doing more of what I love and rest was history. In this past month alone, I can’t tell you how many times I've taken pictures with my DSLR, filmed videos, and found quality time to read and write. It’s amazing how much better life is when you do more of what you love💕.

That itself is enough inspiration for days, and I’m not looking back #TunnelVision.W

Dream Live Ball😤 > vs.The World🌍

I’m just going to leave you with something simple. If you love it, if it makes you happen, DO IT💕

Why blend in when you were born to stand out?

Thinking: Wow, my birthday is really in 17 days!!! I also can't believe I haven't had once piece of candy since the end of August. I gave it up from then until Halloween!!!

Listening to: Just downloaded Dame Dolla (Damian Lillard) The Letter-O, and I'm really loving it!!!

Loving: Dried mangos😋 and my Dream Live Ball IG feed lol

Watching: Pitch on FOX, I love this show so much, if you haven't seen it then you're miss out. Watch it Thursday nights 8pm on FOX.

Excited for: The continued growth and support of DLB, and the exciting new things I have planned for the future of this amazing vision and online community!!!

Waiting for: The weather to get colder, I'm NOT ready for it to be cold, but it's low key freaking me out that it's still fairly warm every day...and that's making me nervous that this winter is going to be bad...😬

Always, #DreamLiveBall

All Summer Sixteen

life, brittany, travel, videobrittany graham

At the beginning of the summer I had huge hopes for summer sixteen and all that it would bring. It went so far as to outlining a very detailed summer bucket list with over 20 things that I wanted to accomplish before it was all said and done. Well it’s now Labor Day Weekend, which means the summer is basically over and I have only completed a pathetic two items from the bucket list. It’s only natural to think that because I only did two of the many things I set out to do that my summer was a complete fail! Oddly enough, it feels like the exact opposite as I truly feel like I had one of the best summers of my life.

Like I said before in my previous blog “Just Do It,” I’m learning to live more, plan less, and just go with the natural flow of where life can take you. Having a plan is good, but it’s nearly impossible to have a pre-determined list of activities waking up every morning like, hey what’s on the list today? Instead, why not wake up and do what you feel. Because it’s when we do that that the best things happen, unexpectedly.

I had one of the best summer's I've had in a long time, and it wasn't because of a bucket list.

Without any true plans this summer, other than a failed bucket list I wasn’t expecting toomuch. I needed up making trips to Chicago, Atlanta, Kansas, Oklahoma, San Antonio and Dallas! I’d say that’s some pretty awesome traveling and trips, especially when you weren’t expecting any. At the end of June at the last minute, I decided to pile in my car and make the 9-hour drive through the wheat fields of Kansas to attend my family reunion in Kansas City. The drive itself was more than long to make solo twice in a weekend, but sometimes a road trip to yourself down the highway on your own time can be one of the most relaxing things ever!

A week later I went to Chicago for about 36 hours 12 hours before I even knew I was going. It was the most spontaneous thing ever getting a call Sunday at 6pm to book the first flight out to Chicago Monday morning, it was crazy and so much fun. After Chicago, a few weeks later towards the end of July, I went to Atlanta for a week also for work. It was a blast to be back in the city where I went to college and see my old school and an added bonus spending my day off with some of my favorite girls I coached while I was at Berry.

After Atlanta, I went straight home to Dallas where I spent almost two weeks at home with my family. During that time, I took two trips with my mom. One day we drove about 2 hours north the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma, and then 4 hours south to San Antonio. #GirlsTrip we had so much fun shopping, gambling (lol), and hanging out on the River Walk.

SERENA!!!!

SERENA!!!!

One of the coolest things I did this summer that was more than unexpected was getting a new car!!! I had been thinking about getting a new car for a few months, but I definitely did not think it was going to be possible so soon. After I drove back from Kansas, my KIA just wasn't cutting it anymore and was basically about to die. A few days later, I was blessed with Serena :) a brand new 2016 Toyota Corolla.

My girl Lily in her ball handling goggles!!!

My girl Lily in her ball handling goggles!!!

Of course, a summer for me wouldn't be a summer if the majority of my time wasn't spent in the gym. June was all about summer camps and as usual, I had so much fun connecting with our campers. Shortly after camp, I started doing personal training with Lily a local 7th grader in Denver. Since then, we have worked out together so much and I can't even begin to explain how much more confident she has gotten in her game. Reflecting back to our first session, I no longer know the shy girl that struggled to main ten layups. Instead, I look forward to working out with the girl who can make 25 plus layups in a row!!!

So take it from me, you don't always need to make some huge list to accomplish things in life. Looking back on my summer, I feel like I did so many cool and fun things without even knowing. I went on a few trips, saw my friends, family, and did what I love in the process. I'm super thankful for being able to have one amazing summer and now I'm even more excited for the start of basketball season and everything that will come with it.

Don't always feel like you need a list to guide you through life, you'll be surprised at things you can accomplish if you wake up everyday and LIVE. But for those who were wondering about which two items I did check of the bucket list, tye-dye and go on a road trip:)

Have a great week, I love you guys!!!
